Safety doesn't have to cost alot of
money! These frugal tips are sure to help you save money & give
you some peace of mind.
Dear Pearl,
I enjoyed your site & will be looking forward to your
newsletter. I'm always looking for ways to save money, and find
easier ways to perform tasks.
Iv'e learned a few things while being in the construction trade
that I'd like to share.
Doors:
Instead of using the screws that come with the door's lock plates,
use 3'' galvanized screws. Because they are much longer, they offer
more protection.
Also, make sure you use a good dead bolt! Fancy door plates with
chain or slider locks can cost between $30 - $50, and offer far
less protection! Those types of locks usually come with 1 - 1 1/2
inch screws, that can be pulled out with just a few slams of the
door!
Security Lights:
There is a motion detector that can be hooked up with you're
existing porch light for around $5. It sure beats paying $50.00 for
a motion detector porch light, or leaving light on while away at
night. Building stores carry them.
Thanks again,
Rod
