Iv'e learned a few things while being in the construction trade that I'd like to share.
Instead of using the screws that come with the door's lock plates, use 3'' galvanized screws. Because they are much longer, they offer more
Also, make sure you use a good dead bolt! Fancy door plates with chain or slider locks can cost between $30 - $50, and offer far less protection!
Those types of locks usually come with 1 - 1 1/2 inch screws, that can be pulled out with just a few slams of the door!
There is a motion detector that can be hooked up with you're existing porch light for around $5. It sure beats paying $50.00 for a motion
detector porch light, or leaving light on while away at night. Building stores carry them.
